KMD’S Guide of Leelanau
With summer just around the corner, we thought it would be fun to point out a few of our favorite places to visit and explore around the area! I absolutely love to live where I get to work and also work where I get to live, so I also love that so many of you who don’t live around Leland get to come up in the summer season to see all of the beauty it contains! The Leelanau peninsula truly is one of my favorite places on planet earth, so I cannot quite imagine living anywhere else.
Here’s a bit of a day in the life, when we’re not designing, creating, and packaging orders up in the studio!
Mundos Coffee
If you know anything about us from the KMD team, you know that coffee is a very, very important part of our days. Usually we’ll have at least a cup or two before noon - but our all time favorite stop when we’re needing an extra pick-me-up is Mundos Coffee in Suttons Bay! It definitely is the best latte you can find north of Traverse City (& it’s even open all year round)!
2. A Hike to Clay Cliffs!
This is one of my family’s all favorite spots to see all of the incredible beauty of the peninsula - I mean come on, this view that’s only a couple of miles north?! This is what makes me feel so lucky to live here.
3. Indian Food from NJs Grocery
I know, I know - true Indian food coming from the front of a grocery store?? Yep, trust us. It’s the best there is. We love to pick up an array of signature dishes and go sit on the docks of the Narrows in Lake Leelanau!
4. Farm Club
While so new to the peninsula, it really has won over my heart as an all time favorite. It’s one of the best spots to grab a glass of cider with my friends, or go on a date with my favorite human & husband, Ryan. The menu is curated entirely of what’s local, which means everything is as fresh as possible and you can really taste that in every bite. I cannot express how grateful I am that Gary & Allison Jonas from The Little Fleet and Nic & Sara Theisen from Loma Farm brought this incredibly special spot to the peninsula!
Their marketplace is perfectly curated and I am so honored to be one of their local vendors!
6. North Beach
I cannot begin to explain to you how much the lake refreshes me. Every chance I get, I’ll head to North Beach to recenter & find my peace again. The sandy beach with endless Petoskey stones, Leland blues, and seaglass truly never gets old.
5. Samaritan’s Closet
Oh, how we just love to thrift. Samaritan’s Closet has some of the best finds ever & is definitely a much needed stop in Lake Leelanau off of 204 on your trip around the peninsula!
7. Ice Cream from Scoops 22
Of course, every perfect summer day must end with some ice cream! This is one of my family’s favorite spots - where you can get anything from a twist with rainbow sprinkles to homemade blueberry ice cream from Buchan’s! Such a special spot that’s brought such sweet memories.
